Around 8:30, just prior to reaching Port Mayaca Lock, we went under a raised quillotine type railroad bridge... it was very interesting looking. I was at the helm as we pulled into the lock, my first time don't ya know, and I did a fine job if I do say so myself. When we pulled out we were entering the Okeechobee and man did it look big... it was like an ocean, could not see across it. Although it's a fresh water lake the water appears brown, just like the brackish water in the ICW along the coast. It took us a little over 3 hours to reach the canal on the other side. Unable the see any landmarks we were totally dependant on the GPS to keep us on course. Water depth was around 8 to 10 feet the entire way.
We left the lake and traveled in a canal which ran along side the Hebert Hover Dike until we reach the Moore Haven Lock. Leaving that lock we were on the Caloosahatchee Canal, we are currently docked at the River Forest Yachting Center. We had a few showers and heard some severe weather just a short distance away but never was bothered by it.
